I’m getting pretty excited for fall ya’ll! Something happens as soon as I flip my calendar over to August, all those autumn feels start to hit me. The weather here has already started to cool off and we’ve been enjoying the outdoors as much as we can. Last week we took full advantage of these perfect days and packed up a picnic.

There is simply nothing better than finding a nice place to spread out with someone you love and snack on yummy eats. A picnic in the park, at the beach, by the lake…… anywhere where you can relax and spend some carefree time just enjoying good food and good company. Really that’s the secret to planning the perfect picnic.

Same principle applies to picnic food, it’s all about what you love. A good picnic can be a basket of sandwiches and a jug of sweet iced tea or a spread of barbecue and all the fixin’s. Or it can be as simple as splitting your favorite dessert with someone who makes you smile. The real secret to a great picnic isn’t about what you bring, it’s about who you share it with.

And I can’t think of anyone I love to share a slice of strawberry pie with than my boys! They are the joy of my life and spending time with them makes me the happiest mama in the world. Life has been pretty busy for us the past few weeks so I was excited to just unplug from the real world and spend some QT with my two favorite people.

I picked up Brady from preschool and we headed to Bob Evans to order something delicious for our picnic celebration. We decided we’d surprise dad with a backyard picnic and show him how much we love him. He’s been working so hard at work and at home helping me finish up our house projects, he totally deserves to be celebrated.

We ordered a few of our favorite meals to-go and something to snack on while we waited. Have you guys tried the Candied Bacon? It’s insanely good!!! B loves the mac and cheese at Bob Evans so we ordered a side of that too.

Our awesome waiter brought our take out and we paid our tab at the front. I couldn’t say no to the desserts just daring me to bring them home on the way out, so I might have grabbed a Lemonade Cake as well.

We spread out our blanket and set-out our delicious plates and waited for dad to get home. B almost spoiled the surprise when dad Face Timed us to say he was almost home. I had to keep him from spilling the beans!

Between bites of pot roast, turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and mac & cheese we told silly stories and laughed at each others terrible jokes. Three-year-olds are not good at jokes, but somehow it makes them even funnier. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

And that my friends is how you plan the perfect picnic!
